Hello Since my first observation of a supposed Senometopia (https://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=116283), I have multiplied my contacts with this tachinidae, almost every day, and at all hours. It is very easy to spot, because it emits a high-pitched, staccato buzzing sound that is very recognizable, even from a few meters away.On the other hand, it is less easy to photograph, because it is always moving and most of the time inside the vegetation, close to the ground. It is still very active, moving around inside the nettle clump, systematically inspecting the leaves, both above and below. There is another clump of nettles in my garden, about fifty meters away from the first, where I also observe an individual which seems to me a little bigger and less worn.I hope that these few observations are of interest to anyone who would like to find this tachinidae, which seems to me to appreciate nettles. Yes it is a female Senometopia and it seems to be in the excisa-group, in which male genitalia are needed for identification.... Theo |
