size: nearly 40mm long
date: 24 June 2007
location: Fodele, Crete, Greece
habitat: house garden (with pond), surrounded by olive groves and brushland

It's most notable features were its red legs and red genitalia.
I had also the impression that its head was small in proportion to the rest of its body...
Sorry, but I didn't manage to get a shot of the wings.

It seems to be a species of Engelepogon. Please add your images to Wikipedia: http://commons.wi...y:Asilidae

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
