It could be so easy ? Eristalinae ?
Observed in Kerala this Hover fly (I believe it)
8 mm length with these characteristic features in the eyes ?

As they are many Eristalinus possible in Southern India
(even if Eristalinus quinquestriatus could be a possible attribution)
and as my pictures are not good enough to go further in the determination
(the 4 black stripes on the thoracis dorsum not really marked)
I will use your info to name this organism
