Antenna "muscomorph" (3 regular segments and dorsal arista on third segment). Syrphidae seem to me more probable. |

Peradon is right (Syrphidae: Microdontinae). The female belongs to P. angustus (Macquart, 1846). I have collected this in Surinam myself in 2006 on two localities: Peperpot and Mopentibo. The male in the photo seems to have a black abdomen, but I cannot see it well enough. If that is the case indeed, then it would have to be identified as the black colour morph of P. bidens (Fabricius). Finding these two taxa in copula could be an indication that they are actually synonymous. Colour polymorphism is known to occur in a few species of Peradon (see https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/36493/). I would be interested to know locality and date of this photo! |
