If the species is common you should find it in

Cresson, E. T. 1944. A systematic annotated arrangement of the genera and species of the neotropical Ephydridae. Transactions of the American Entomological Society 71(4)

Key: http://chla.libra...=frameset;
Table of contents: http://chla.libra...9_4281_003

You will need to consult a more modern reference to find current generic names.

This one is uncommon: inland salt marshes, silt near water (only my special hunting for Lispe permits to get together such invisible tiny flies). But wing spots are very nice and seems to me very uncommon for Ephydridae.

A parable for John Carr.
10-11 years ago I started to learn entomology.
After 1-2 years of learning I asked my more experienced friend: I can more or less work with keys, am I entomologist now? He answered: not yet.
After 3-4 years of learning I told to my friend: I send an interesting fly to the family expert an got the name without much troble. You are an entomologist now! - replied my friend Grin

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
