This small fly was near Chicago attracted to some deposition on a fence. ~ 3/16". It was with the other striped flies that appeared to be Chloropids, only this one lacked the bright yellow on the pronotum.

Yes, it is a chloropid. One of the group that are more typically like the true frit fly, Oscinellinae.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
