A "looks like" again (see Hypera zoilus): Lixus ochraceus from Reseda. If you send photos for our beetle gallery, I can submit them to various experts. Best regards Frank

I don't know how can I send photos to the beetle gallery.
Fortunately, I have the preliminar list of all Iberian Curculionoidea.

Nearest Reseda are many kilometres along... it can't be ochraceus, I think.

Related secies present in my country (subgenus Compsolixus):

Lixus albomarginatus
Lixus anguinus (this is not, because the elytra end are rounded)
Lixus castellanus
Lixus cruciferae
Lixus junci
Lixus laufferi

Thanks ;-)

Nice to see the lists of the spanish weevils, but unfortunately it?s terra incognita for me. To submit a pic and find my contact data, klick on the link above ;-) It?s a little bit difficult to find spanish experts for all beetle families, but for Curculionidae there are some colleagues.

This case: Subgenus Compsolixus is ok. If these are all spanish species, it can be only ochraceus or albomarginatus - living both on Reseda. Lixus doesn?t look like good fliers, but they are very mobile ;-)

Comparing your photo with my collection and books, it should be albomarginatus.

Best regards
Frank

Thanks again Frank!

I will put it as L. albomarginatus. This exemplar fly well, you can see the wings at the end of the body.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
