I thought I had already posted this but apparently I was mistaken. Maybe I was thinking of the Drosophila which was near it. I think it was about 1/4". It was on a leaf near the log in the forest where I was finding Cossonus impressifrons (a weevil) under bark.

This one is turning out to be a problem!

Well, this one baffles me. There are a few groups where you can find those bent wings. One conspicuous one is the genus Stegana of the Drosophilidae, but then the wings are not flat but slightly askew (like a roof on a house). Another family that has a 'weak' zone in the wing is the Psilidae. This weak zone can cause easy bending. This has some aspects of the genus Chyliza but the colour of the eyes and shape of the head tell me no. Naoyone else a suggestion?
BTW: Do you have a larger image that you can mail me?

Hi Paul,
How large an image would you like? Shall I send it directly to you?

Paul's suggestion Psilidae sounds like a good one to me!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
