Bunch of social wasps. Nesting in the bark of a tree. They got quite aggressive when I approached for the photo. One bit/stung me. I have a guide to the bees and wasps of Singapore but no sign of these guys in it. Tried google and flickr but also no luck. Anyone have any idea?

I would think about Polistinae/Polistes, but I'm not sure. 1st abdominal segment looks a bit strange.
(And I don't have a clue about asian species…)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
