Amongst the leaves on a large yucca in an ornamental garden, thought to be dead at first (I established that it wasn't via the truly scientific approach of poking it, whereupon it shuffled sideways slightly and continued to do nothing much until I tried for a dorsal shot... then it flew away).

Small. Probably around 4-6mm? My estimates are generally off.

30 Mar 2012.

Looks like Bibionidae enough for me to post it without a question mark. Doesn't mean much.

It does. I'd seen that one, but had thought (not noticing the <10mm note) that it was too large.
