Hello!

I've got a photo of a robber fly, taken between Maas and Rhine in Germany these days.

www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/data/500/20567robber_fly.jpg

Is there somebody in this great forum here, who can help me, to determine this species?

Thank you very much, Martin...

I took the liberty of moving the thread to the Syrphidae forum, because that is where it belongs. Something Xylota-like, but it takes someone with more recent experience than me to tell exactly what species. Wink

I think, it is Xylota segnis, a male.

Thanx for the impulse...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol
