The male is Bibio johannis The females are very difficult from picture, but if you say it is the same species, it is Bibio johannis ![]() |

They are fairly common at the moment ... the first flush of Bibio, before the next round of B.marci and B.anglicus

They shout be dominant in presence these days. B. lanigerus, which is 1 week later on the average, is restricted to sandy soils (we don't have chalk, so not sure about that), Theo |

B.lanigerus has always been a bit scarce around me (I have chalk) but I did find 2 stuck to my car windscreen after a long journey a few years ago
