Does anyone have any idea how to identify anything from genus Condylostylus ? This seems to be a void into which very few venture. I can't find very much literature on them or websites. I have quite a few images of them but no way to ID them past genus. I also can't find anyone that can help.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Are you just interested in North America? I could email you a fairly complete key for the genus north of Mexico...

Do you have the key in Robinson (1964) and his new species? Can you send me a copy? I've seen most of the older keys and descriptions for Condylostylus and the newer keys of Steyskal for Sciapus, but Robinson's review isn't available online or in print in any convenient library.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
