I found this male species on La Gomera (Canary islands), Palmarejo. 02-03-2022.
There are 2 species in the 2009 list that occur on la Gomera. Tolmerus fuscus and Tolmerus antennatus
But I don't have any description of these 2 species so I've problems with the ID.
Any help is welcome ...

Hi Johan,

Have you tried this key? There are both descriptions of T. fuscus and T. antennatus. Hradský, Milan & Bosak, Jaroslav. (2006). Distribution of some species of robberflies (Diptera, asilidae) in the Canary Islands, and description of three new species of genus Tolmerus Loew, 1849.. Čas. Slez. Muz. Opava (A). 55. 135-145.

Best, Jonne

Hi Jonne,

Thank you for the key.
I couldn't get out with the key Frown
I read also all the descriptions and my best guess will be Tolmerus oromii but I'm not sure.

Best regards

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
