All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

As there are only inconspicuous dark marks on the wing edges and the head is not dark, I'd vote for the common E. briggsi. If it is a female, however, E. meridionalis would also be an option (that species is obligatorily parthenogenetic). The British key https://www.brc.a...-E2-F1.htm is very useful but does not cover all species. To be on the safe side, use the great paper by Lienhard (https://faunedefr...8re%20.pdf). In several cases only the genitals are decisive, though.
Regards, Sundew

Thanks, very helpful! Until now, the only Ectopsocus I found was E. petersi, which is very common here.
Unfortunately, even under magnification I cannot figure out the sex of the specimen, the end of the abdomen is very black, and I am not even sure if the last segment is retracted.
Cheers, Lorin
