This is R. subcinerascens. R. cinerascens has not been found in the UK

No one can tell them apart. They are the same species. Distribution in Europe of the two species is detemined by what key the dipterists use. Grin

Have they been formally synonymized?
I must have missed that if so but havn't been much focussed on European Empidinae of late
