Wolfgang Schacht (1939-2011)
Only today I read in a related forum that Wolfgang Schacht (retired from the Diptera Section of the Zoologische Staatssammlung München) dies 10 April this year. He was very active and, amongst others, responsible for cataloging the Diptera of Bavaria. A full list of publications can be found here. Another sad loss for dipterology.

Paul - thanks for posting this sad news about Wolfgang Schacht. In 2003/4 I had the priveledge of working with him on very interesting material which he had obtained from Taiwan. It resulted in the description of several new species including one which I named after him - Silba schachti (Lonchaeidae). As you say another sad loss.

He was really an incredible collector and custodian, entirely dedicated to his flies. Since he retired, he stayed working as a garden cleaner to stay closer to his Diptera collection.

I also dedicated one species to him, Oedaspis schachti Korneyev, 2001 (Tephritidae), which he collected on Taiwan.

Rest in Peace.

I got several literature from him and he gave me some good suggestions on Lauxaniidae. I am so sad.
