I figured out the epistoma - the area between the mouth edge and the antenna, so no rush for a glossary item.

maybe nycteribiid has no halteres as well. They don?t need them for nothing... if some species has no wings.

There are several more apterous flies without halters, for example in Sciaridae and Cecidomyiidae.

as you can see the wings are absent AND this must be AN UNIQUE CASE (or at least extremely rare)... there are no HALTERES!
