In the field, I saw this male as belonging to Eristalis pertinax, so I did not pay any special attention. However, seeing the very clear wings in the photo, I subsequently got doubts whether it could rather be E. similis, and if, whether it is possible to tell for sure from this limited angle. From a flowering sloe S of Horsens, Denmark, yesterday 22 April.
