Berlin - September 2017

I think that this could be a Pales species (particularly pales) based upon the bluish color, reddish-brown hind tibia and long hairs seemingly at the facial ridge. Is this correct? I think it is also a female but i'm not sure. If it isn't a Pales sp, then i could use a better suggestion.

note: no specimn and no other angles available.

Thank you and Best wishes,
John

Yes, it is a female Pales.

Do you have Thaumetopoea around Berlin ?

Hello Theo,

Thank you for confirming the genus. Regarding Thaumetopoea, i do not know. I have not seen the caterpillars but i do not visit many places in Berlin (it is a large city). I will have to research that question. Meantime, I am happy with a genus since i only have three photos of this fly.

Best wishes,
John

Thaumetopoea processionea is present around Berlin, so it could be Pales processioneae and i don't know how to separate them. I am okay with a genus, Theo Smile I know how tricky it can be to separate very similar species. And i only have this angle avaiable.

Thank you very much for taking time to reply, Theo.

Best wishes,
John

All is good. Thank you for confirming the genus, Theo. Tachinidae in general are difficult. I doff my hat to you for working with this family so well.

Best wishes,
John

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
