This is a female Lochmorhynchus sp. -- very much like a Proctacanthus...

Cheers,

Eric

Hi Reinoud,

Both genera are in the 'Apocleine' group of Asilinae (w/o anatergal setae); distinctive, as both w/ r4 & r5 veins ending in costa above tip of wing. Lochmorhynchus ovipositor w/ apical pair of flap-like appendages, no spines; restricted to so. S. Amer. (Argentina & Chile). Proctacanthus (+ Taurhynchus, Eccritosia & Proctacanthella) have apical cluster of spines on ovipositor, are widespread in Americas.

Cheers, Eric
