This black robberfly flew at ca 1400 m altitude near Malvaglia, Tessin (Switzerland). I saw it sitting on a wooden wip (correct word?). The surroundings are mountain meadows, extremely folwery, just about to be mowed.

It is a medium sized robberfly, say 15mm. All black, except for the white beard. I've seen only this specimen.

and here with a bee as prey.

The question, as so often, is of course: can it be IDed?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
