Hi there,

found this specimen in an August night on a forest edge near the city of Vienna, Austria.

Could it be a member of Gnophomyia?

Best,
Lorin

Maybe as a first step, the confirmation of the Family would already be helpful. Thanks, Lorin

So, if Gnophomyia is confirmed, then according to Fauna Europaea only Gnophomyia viridipennis is listed for Austria. Any dissenting or affirmating vote?

Thanks,
Lorin

The Fauna Europaea is incomplete for the distribution of many species (see, e.g., my small paper on Psilosoma in Austria https://drive.goo...&pli=1 Smile) Use the Catalogue of the Craneflies of the World by Pjotr Oosterbroek http://ccw.natura... and search for genus name and country Austria - you will find 2 species, G. lugubris and G. viridipennis. To be on the safe side, you should write a Private Message to Pjotr, he will surely help you but visits our forum only seldom.
Regards, Sundew

...and Psilosoma still not added to Austria Wink
Thanks, I will contact Pjotr and give report in this thread

Greetings
Lorin
