Hello,

can sombody tell me the name of this species.
We found it in June next to a woody area (SW-Germany).

One Key (Bothe 1996) told me it's E. auricollis, but when i try it with Van Veen, i allway miss Episyrphus, because i can not see any hair on metasternum.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
looking both in Faunaeur Name Search and in the Nomenclator Query of Systema Dipterorum I don't find any Episyrphus auricollis.
Maybe the presently accepted name is Meliscaeva auricollis (Meigen 1822)?
Best regards,
Carlo

I think Meliscaeva auricollis is corect. As far as i know Meliscaeva was seen as a subgenus of Episyrphus, but in later works reinstall Meliscaeva as separate genus (Van Veen 2010)

Greetings
Pengie
