Picture taken by Miquel Boix at Constantins, Girona in Catalonia 29 April 2007

I've been browsing the gallery and searched the forum but can't tell wether it is arbustorum, pertinax or tenax. Judging from the answers to posts, it seems as the id of theses species is quite straightforward, but I haven't figured out why.

I do see hairy bands in the eyes and have read that leg colour is not diagnostic.

Could anyone be so kind to tell wich species it is and what makes him think so?

Thanks in advance,

Aleix Comas

Hi,

this is Eristalis similis (= pratorum) because the pterostigma is very long and the fore tarsi are black .

Regards, Dieter

Thanks a lot! I couldn't see any picture of this in the gallery, so I'll send it, it would be good for comparing with a quite similar picture of pertinax, where the long pterostigma can be seen but with fore tarsi yellow.

Cheers, Aleix
