Last Friday I dug a small pond in my garden. Chironomids were flying over it as soon as the first drops of water were in. Other insects have arrived during Saturday and Sunday, and today (Monday) I was watching some ephydrids feeding on the drowned bodies of various other insects. The photo is not very good, but shows what I believe to be a female Hydrellia griseola feeding at the edge of the pond from the drowned body of an ant Lasius niger sens. lat.

Ponds are cool Cool
