found what I believe was an E.eligans the other day but this hoverfly found yesterday in Bushy Pk SW London seems to have slightly different markings:

I had assumed this was Eligans but now I wonder:

Both are indeed Epistrophe eligans, the upper one is the female, the lower one the male.
There is a considerably amount of variation in color in this species!
