Several years ago I marked this photo as Phasia sp., but as I look at it again, it seems to have all the right traits for Gymnosoma sp. Does this seem right, Gymnosoma sp.? 13 July 2007, Canaan Valley, West Virginia, elevation 1030 meters, mixed woodland and open areas, also wetlands. I'd bet on Gymnosoma - you have that genus in North America It's a female - hence the heavy black markings.
