Is it possible to specify the species?
Fly of strange head with 5,3 mm body. Taken in coastal area of Granada (S Spain), on March 30, 2012. More shots available.

Thanks for your help

Hi Joke, I can see that it comes to sericea/sponsa, but what makes you lean towards sericea?

Based on the genal setae, that seems to be uniserial and relative short.
Maybe a crop of the frontal vitta is possible, to see if there are interfrontals ...or not.
L. sericea mostly has not.

Thanks. I find it difficult to interpret things like 'strongly' and 'weakly' setose and 'very short' - and I keep imagining that I can see interfrontals Grin. As you say, it would be good to see crops of the head shots (and perhaps a lower angle on the genal setae).

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
