Hi together,

in a kitchen for babyfood thereīs at the moment a problem with numerous dark flies. I think, this might be sphaerocerids. This group is rather difficult I think, but could sth. be said about most likely larval-substrate?

Limosiinae, but impossible to say what genus/species, so hard to say what the larval substrate is. If any products related with seaweed are used (agar), then Thoracocheat is possible. If you send me some specimens I can give you apecies ID.

Leptocera (Leptocera) caenosa, with larvae feeding on all kinds of organic waste (including faeces) and by now a cosmopolitan, synanthropic species. Kitchens at the like have been reported as place of occurence.

Many thanks, Paul. I think we have to look for sth. disgusting behind the refrigerator. Its improbable that they came from outside, because thereīs a rather fine fly-screen.

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
