There's been something iffy happening with this post, so I'm hoping that it's just my computer and I haven't posted this 700 times already. Anyhow, a loverly bloodsucker for your entertainment: Place: My right ankle, Chongwe district, Lusaka Province, Zambia. Habitat: in (apparently any) shade close to swimming pool. Date: 23/09/2011 Size: pushing 17-19mm? I tend to overestimate when they bite. Will van Niekerk attached the following image: ![]() [106.62Kb] Edited by Will van Niekerk on 06-02-2012 20:16 |

Also a closer image of its face as it enjoys a good meal (Closer yet is available if it helps identify).

We really need a dorsal shot of the abdomen but great action shot! Steve |

I did try to get a dorsal shot for her, and quickly found that a) I wasn't that flexible and the only time she would stay still for the camera was when she was biting me, and twice was more than enough of that! Can you tell whether she is indeed a Tabanus, or would she require a dorsal view for that? |

Sorry, for no obvious reason I couldn't bring myself to off her, so didn't get a specimen. |
