Bonjour !
I send you pictures of a larva found in the decaying husk
of a nut felt in the grass.
I think the tree is Juglans nigra.
Size : around 6mm
Location : France - Val de marne - Alt : 85 m

Definitely Stratiomyd larva, but I cannot tell which genus. For that I need a detailed photo of the anal segment in dorsal or/ventral view. The anal segment appears to have only single hairs (so no Beris). On the photo bottomright, I think I can see that the antenna is placed somewhat mid-dorsally which I think fits best with a member of a Pachygastrinae. But detailed info on the position of the hairs on the head and anal segment is necessary.

Based on the lateral view in the bottom left image I would say it had already pupated...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
