Can anyone ID this fly. I suspect a Lonchaeidae Lonchaea spec. This fly was seen 2 sept 2011 in riverine area on grass and on Tachetes flowers in eastern part of the Netherlands

Hi Jan Your third photograph shows the yellowish caylpterae with a number of longer hairs in the fringe (just below the wing), this with the all black legs, time of year and a liking for flowers makes it a female of Setisquamalonchaea fumosa. Do you mind if I use the 3rd photo for my website? best wishes ...... iain http://lonchaeidae.myspecies.info Iain MacGowan |

Hi Iain, Very good you can ID up to species name. You are very much welcome to use the photograph for your website provided you mention the source: Jan Wind & Mariëtte Geluk. We (my wife and I) are pleased that we can contribute to your website this way. Kind regards, Jan Wind Edited by Jan Wind on 09-09-2011 12:08 |
