Hopefully someone can help to indentify the species on the photo submitted. The picture was taken in Holland, Braamt on August 13th 2011. The fly is small: 5-7 mm. It might be Clogmia albipuncta but it certainly did not give you a sting. The only Psychodidae that can bite are the sandflies (Phlebotominae) and these we do not have in the Netherlands. Perhaps you were bitten by a Heatompota horsefly, which are also grey...
