Hi, This Tephritid male sat on Achillea in the surroundings of Rudolstadt (Thurinigia) some days ago. Can it get a name, and what is the dark projection above its antennae? Many thanks, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: ![]() [178.16Kb] Edited by Sundew on 22-07-2011 11:02 |

So this is the male to the female of http://www.dipter...ost_177716? To me, it looked quite different as to the much lighter wing patterning... Obviously, number and position of light spots are not absolutely reliable for species ID (if I only would overloook the variability!). Many thank for all the IDs, dear Severin. And what is that dark knob on the forehead?

Indeed, the male is reddish yellow, whereas females are dark brown.
