Are you sure that these are the same fly? The first looks female and the second looks male. The second photo is certainly Sarcophagidae (probably not Sarcophaga) but we'd need Thomas to comment really. The first could be Tachinidae or Sarcophagidae - I need some more angles

Judging from the size of the pulvilli, I'd agree with Chris - first female, second male, but I'd be surprised if this isn't the same species, on the basis of wing colouration.

Hi Chris and Tony Cheers for the comments and yep I have checked the pictures again and they are not in sequence, and taken from a different places, but it was taken around that area, probably about 200meter away from the 1st one. Cheers, FW |

Sorry to be slow in catching up on this one, but it has been a while since I checked up on Diptera.info. This absolutely beautiful fly is Sarcophaga lekebai Shinonaga, 2004, known only from Lekebai on Flores. Quite interestingly, Flores and Timor have some really beautifully colored species of Sarcophaga (mainly subgenera Lioproctia and Sarcorohdendorfia). Flores is one of my 'dream destinations' for a future collecting trip. And yes, this is the male and the female.

I photographed this fly: ![]() http://observado....w/62282516 in my backyard in the village of Woloara near Moni, on the slopes op Gn.Kelimutu on 18-6-11, 10 days after your pic was taken. I think it might me the same species. Didn't know it was an endemic species.... Mark Edited by ChrisR on 27-12-2011 19:49 |
