Can anyone confirm Gerard Pennard's guess that this Merodon sp. is M. clavipes http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=30702 or are there simply too many similar Merodons in the Mediterranean/ on Corsica to be sure? I was considering posting it in the gallery (there are no images for M clavipes), but the ID is too uncertain at the moment! 4.6.2010 Corsica near Propriano, c 12mm feeding on Umbel flowers by a mountain stream c 400m nick upton attached the following image: ![]() [86.28Kb] Edited by nick upton on 14-11-2010 15:45 Nick Upton - naturalist and photographer |

I can confirm my own suggestion ![]() ![]() I'm quite sure this is the male of merodon clavipes, look at these pictures made by me at this French website: http://cyrille.dussaix.pagesperso-orange.fr/Merodon_clavipes/M.clavipes_illus.html Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

Many thanks Gerard, for confirming your initial guess. I can see my flies match your specimens very well. I'll post my images for the gallery soon as there are none of clavipes up yet. Nick Upton - naturalist and photographer |
