My first impression is muscidae - Hebecnema, but I havebeen wrong before (it's hard to believe but it's true!)

Thank you Kahis for your help again Before posting, I rattled through the families to ty and establish at least that level but failed even there!I have been right on some (very few) IDs but my track record is very poor

Sorry, but this is a male Hydrotaea (subgenus Ophyra). It is very probably H. capensis.

So I was wrong But in my defence, H. capensis is a species I have never seen before.
