22/08/2010, garden (on Laurus nobilis), Essen, Belgium. I have no idea about family, let alone genus or species. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I kept the specimen, so additional pictures can be made up if needed.

I looked through the Gallery. Could it be Sylvicola (Anisopodidae) and is species possible? |

Thanks, Mark! It looks like a difficult key, but I will try it out. |

I arrive at 9 (I would appreciate if someone could check I didn't make any obvious mistakes), but I have no possibility to check genitalia (anyway, I think this is a female). That leaves us with Sylvicola zetterstedti and S. baechlii. According to Fauna Europaea, only the first one is present in Belgium. Is S. baechlii expected for Belgium? Thanks in advance! |

I'd go to the next couplet, no. 10, with fenestralis and cinctus...

Thanks Paul, but in that case it is over for me. Is it 50/50 between the two species, or is one of the two more plausible? |
