body ~ 2-3 mm. Note the blue color on end of wings, it does not come from flash, it was seen with naked eye in cloudy weather. Yellowish color on wings probably comes from flash.

hello, there are some Trombidiidae (and Hydrachnidae, i think) mites that attack Diptera, usually at the space between terguites; i´m not sure where (so don´t believe this) but i read time ago that aquatic mites attack Tipulide and others while they emerge from the puparium (a sad beginning)
Here it is a link to a pic of Roger Thomason of another Chiro with two http://diptera.in...d_id=29450
In case it was Cricotopus (i can´t rule out other genera) it has the abdomen pattern of at least C. tremulus, but that´s very risky for me, i stop with subfamily
regards
- edit: i link to another one (female) with similar abdomen http://diptera.in...d_id=29487

I had a image, bad one doh, allmost the same as that one from your link, except the predators were red, the spot where they attacked was the same.
But I guess when they are in hurry , they are not so spot picky.
