Tachinidae (hairy eyes). My guess is Ernestia puparum.

I'd agree with that - very hairy eyes; protruding mouth edge; wide abdomen with strongly dusted bands; shaded rm vein; flying in Spring ... all say E.puparum. Actually this would be quite late in its season - hence the damaged wings.

Hi, Just as a caution: E. vagans is quite similar and both early fliers, although puparum a bit earlier. Might be a difficult to judge from the picture which one this is.. In Finland puparum flies very early: no leaves on the trees etc. My experience of vagans is from NW-Germany (end April), flying in the spring but in basically full summer conditions for a Finn. These vagans also had similarly shaded r-m, whereas the Finnish puparum don't (a image for a comparison, male and a female). http://213.139.16...m%2001.jpg These are just thoughts, no expert opinions! I was struggling a bit with id's for the vagans, so Theo might prove me wrong still. Jaakko Edited by Jaakko on 04-04-2010 20:44 |
