I'd like to ask what a subgenital plate in this family looks like. Is it the V or U-shaped plate? Is this a Psychoda? It was in a weekend house. Thanks in advance!

That shape of subgenital plate suggests Psychoda (Tinearia) alternata, <strike>but it can't be that species because of the differently shaped antennal tip and the presence of ascoids.</strike> Edit: Phil is of course right. For some unknown reason I remembered the ascoid reduction to be much more pronounced than it really is. The antennal tip I don't know why I didn't identify. I apologise if my confusion got to reproduce. Edited by Gunnar M Kvifte on 31-01-2010 01:08 |

Absolute nonsense: this is a typical alternata subgenital plate and the antennal tip is also exactly as expected. |

I should also have clarified that it is the V-shaped structure which is the subgenital plate: hope that helps. |
