This was a small to middle sized syrphid, not very common around here.

Hehe, Gerard has to make his living doing field work this summer. After that it is a holiday. He might well be on that holiday right now, so expect him back in the not too distant future.

And, well, I was wondering about Eumerus, too. Those hind tarsi should be characteristic, one would think.

The white-pilose hind tarsi are found in the males of a couple of Eumerus species - argyropus and flavitarsis, but argyropus has spots only on tergite three, so this a male flavitarsis. Cute fly! Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
