Hi, I didn't manage to find its id. Even didn't find its family.. ![]() I only got one picture but would love to know its family and if possible a Genus and maybe a specie name ... Taken in the local nature reserve, Gent, Belgium on the 19th of May.. Any help very much appreciated..

Unmistakable (once you know where to look for it ): Empis tessellata, female.

Oh, I would never had thought it was a female with its eyes so close together and even joining. Must be one of these tricky exeptions then in that family.... Thanks Paul! ![]() |

Oops, you are right. It's a male. Usually males of tessellata do not have the tip of the abdomen bent to such an extent.
