Hi!

I was only photographing the butterfly... Cool. Any idea about the small Brachycera? (Northwest Germany, last weekend)

Siphona sp. were indeed very numerous here in the last weeks. But I had them small, but not *so* small in mind.

Colour scheme seems similar to Ceranthia lichtwardtiana in the Gallery...Don't know what size they are, or if they are found in Germany.

Thanks, they look really quite similar. And the species occurs in Germany, but I don't know more on the size than "small". I did not expect to get a genus or even species name for this little fly, family would be more than fine. And there are two votes vor Tachinidae... Smile
Best regards,
Jürgen

The overall appearance would seem to suggest Siphona (Tachinidae) and I think you can make out the forward-pointing, hinged proboscis on the photo.

Thanks! I'm not sure, whether I see a proboscis or a part of a foreleg. If it's a proboscis, it's much shorter than that of the one on the big photo.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Siphona have a folding proboscis - first picture shows it folded - second picture shows it extended Wink
