This little (5-6mm) anthomyid was examining holes in a dead tree in full sun today. I know it's a rubbish photo (it was a fast mover!) but can anyone identify it and tell me what it was doing? Smile

try Eustalomyia cf. hilaris (I have not solved a sinonym problem among them). Faune de France says the adult search at treeŽs trunks Crabronidae nests for their larvae (IŽll upload a pic and youŽll see your photos are good Smile

Thanks guys - it was certainly looking for something - there were a couple of them plus a few pompilids looking for spiders in the same beetle holes Smile
