Big Lonchaeidae? S-HU, Sep -> Lonchaea peregrina by Iain MacGowan

Hi, these are Lonchaeids, I think, but they were really big, bigger than Musca domestica. On dead wood.

Yes, and only a few species have yellow legs. I think I made a photo of the same species. Let us hope that Ian comes around, he is the Lonchaeid expert here.

Walter Yes there are some big Lonchaeids! this species in the photograph with pale calypterae and partly pale tarsomeres is most probably Lonchaea peregrina which can get have a body length of up to 6 - 7 mm, it is common over much of central Europe and has been recorded previously from Hungary. there are another 2 closely related species but L.peregrina seems most likely from this photograph ........
