Found this one on a wooden rail in the garden yesterday...Hairy wings seems to match Cecidomyiidae in the Gallery. Only got one listed for Shetland which is Lestremia cinerea. As this little thing was only a couple of mm in size, I suppose there are more types than the one listed....Anyone know this family?? Roger Thomason attached the following image: ![]() [166.12Kb] |

Hi, Roger! Why not Chironomidae - with those long forelegs...? Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

Hi Juergen No reason why it can't be Chironomidae...probably is ![]() First one I've seen here with such hairy edges to wings, which seemed to be more like Cecidomyiidae which also seem to have long forelegs in the Gallery Photo's. Regards Roger |
