Katepisternal seems very hairy and arista not long plumose (but difficult to say with blackish background...)
I also think P.subventa

Normally, 3 p. setae on mid tibia and 2 presut. acr would indicate Phaonia bitincta, but in somes rare cases, Phaonia subventa can have 3 p. a leg, and 2 on another, like other Muscidae. We can't neither evaluate the hairiness of arista on this black background, nor the width of the presutural black vittae from this anglethough they appear narrow, it's a pity. The doubt remains...

Thanks, but I'm still in doubt.
Arista seems not too long plumose -> P. subventa.
Presutural vittae seems narrow, yellow pedicel -> P. bitincta.

Can I be stupid and as what is meant by a. Presutural vittae and b. yellow pedicel?

I have no idea how it would help, but here is a P. subventa identified by you (I think) earlier: http://www.flickr...2/sizes/o/

Pedicel is the scientific name for the 2nd antennal segment, and presutural vittae are the 2 median dark stripes before the thoracic suture. Theses stripes are normally at least as broad as 2/3 of the grey area separating them for P. subventa, and not more than 1/3 for P. bitincta(must be appreciated from a rear view).
I cannot give a definitive and reliable ID from these pictures, sorry. The P. subventa given in link is more "conventional".
Stephane.
