Hello, Concerning this Tabanidae (June 2009, Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert (26)(South of France)) we hesitate between D. ater and D. carbonarius Its size is about : 14mm ![]() What is your opinion ? |

I can understand that. It is difficult to see from this pic. To be honest, I don't expect carbonarius as north as St. Nazaire. Theo |

I'm sorry, I mixed up carbonarius with anthracinus. This is definitely NOT carbonarius, it might be taken for anthracinus. However, after checking this literature I have little doubt it is D. ater, a female Theo |

Caution, this is not the harbour St Nazaire. Departement 26 (Drôme) is in the southern part of France. But maybe it doesn't matter, after all.
